Your History is Jesus’ Victory

Romans 3:23-24

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Everyone has a story that involves his or her history.  All of us that walk in the door of this church have been through some stuff but the best part of all this is that the blood of Christ has redeemed all that “stuff”. 

Jesus tells a man that has had the demons cast out of him in Luke 8 to go home and tell everyone about what just happened because Christ had drastically changed his life. That same lesson can be applied to your life.  Once you are saved, the life you live is no longer what it used to be, but God has taken everything that you used to be and He transformed it into a brand new testimony. 

Your testimony is the story that God has given you and He has redeemed your story.  John 8:36 reminds us that whoever the Son sets free is free indeed.  You are free in Christ, and your past failures represent Christ’s victories; you don’t have to cover it up.  God doesn’t come with an eraser and erase the past, but He does still use our past to shape our future.  David slayed Goliath with the same skill that he used as a shepherd to protect his flock. If he hadn’t trained for years with that sling he wouldn’t have been equipped to slay Goliath. 

God wants to use you to save the kind of people that you used to be.  The apostle Peter was a fisherman who was rough around the edges and God used him to bring people to Christ.  God can use you; He has already been equipping you just like He equipped David to fight Goliath.  Nothing you have been through is wasted.  Go and show everyone that you have been redeemed because your history is Jesus’ victory!
