He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy. One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan. Luke 17:14-16 NLT

When the ten lepers were in need of healing, Jesus told them to go to the priests. They knew that Jesus was capable of healing them in that very moment, yet they obeyed and went anyway. The Bible then tells us “...as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.” It doesn’t say “when they got there” or “some time after they got there,” it says “as they went,” meaning while they were on their way and long before they even arrived. The lepers were healed not because of their destination or because of the priests, but because they believed; and in the process of them believing and going where Jesus told them to go, they were healed.

There are two steps that are vital to your healing process:

  1. Believing by living out the process in your waiting.

  2. Thankfulness—responding with a heart of gratitude.

When one of the lepers noticed he was healed, he turned around instantly and began shouting “Praise God!” Can you imagine such a scene? One moment he’s walking with 9 other men and the next he’s running and shouting in the opposite direction. The others must have thought he was crazy. He realized something the others didn’t. He ascribed value to what God had done, and he lived in a way that appreciated it rather than depreciated it. He didn’t diminish the value of the miracle just because it didn’t happen in his way or timing. Whether you’re waiting for your healing or have already received it, make the choice today to live with a thankful heart, believing that in the right timing and through the process, you will be healed.
