“She said to her husband, ‘I know that this man who often comes our way is a holy man of God. Let’s make a small room on the roof and put in it a bed and a table, a chair and a lamp for him. Then he can stay there whenever he comes to us.’” 2 Kings 4:9-10

When the Shunammite woman saw Elisha passing by, she immediately recognized him and determined to make space for him in her home. She recognized the anointing of God on his life and realized the importance of having him close by, so she created space for him in a home that was presumably full.

Because of the woman’s hospitality, Elisha asked the woman what could be done for her. When he learned that she had no son and her husband was of old age, Elisha prophesied over the woman that she would have a son a year later. The following year, she gave birth to a son just as Elisha said she would.

In the same way, the presence of the Lord is constantly around us, constantly passing us by. The question we must ask ourselves is “am I going to recognize it and reach out and do something about it, or am I comfortable just letting the presence of God pass by me?” How much in you desires and wants to have continual close fellowship with the presence of the Lord?

The Shunammite woman made room for the supernatural to take place in her life. She created a space where the presence of God could not only pass by, but also come in and allow the miraculous to take place. The presence of God is continually passing our way; it’s our job to do something about it so we can have close fellowship with Him and see Him at work in our lives. Where in your life do you need to make room for the presence of God? If you allow Him into your situation, you will make room for His hope, love, forgiveness, peace, and joy to come in and transform your life.
