There’s a space inside all of us that is reserved for God. Imagine when we try to put ourselves at the center of that space.

We feel like we have to fill it with something. We think all our dreams and ambitions are going to make us feel good and fill us, but once we get to that point, most of the time we feel more empty than we did before. It creates a void. That's why we feel so empty in relationships or accomplishments because we try to fill that space on our own.

When we make everything revolve around us, the result is emptiness. Instead of listening to others, we do all the talking. Instead of giving, we’re taking. Everything that happens that doesn't lift us up, doesn’t build us up or make us feel recognized or validated is an infringement upon the religion that we've created for ourselves. Yet, there is a remedy for this emptiness.

We were meant to be filled by God. We read in Ephesians 5:18 to “be filled with the Spirit.” He created us to be filled with Him. It means taking time talking to Him and listening. Only He is big enough to fill the space that’s there.

Let’s transform our view of ourselves to first see our void, then to take steps to fill it with God. Let’s be busy putting Jesus first. We were created to be filled by Him. We were never meant to fill the void with ourselves; it was meant for God.
