Be Still and Know
By Pastor Amy Smith
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.” Psalm 46:10 (NLT)
We can know what God’s voice sounds like by spending time with Him. We learn His voice by reading His word and taking the time to listen and be still in Him. It takes discipline and intentionality to be still. It might even take a lot of physical effort to make yourself be still in the presence of God.
The world is so loud. If we are not careful, the deafening sound of the world will drown out the voice of God in our lives. We have to actually take time to create opportunities for silence.
There are some practical things you may need to do in order to take the time to listen to the voice of God:
-
Wake up earlier
-
Take a social media break
-
Consume less media
Take just five minutes to turn off the distractions, be still, and listen for His voice. When you give your total focus and attention to the God of the universe and to what He wants to say to you as an individual, you’ll get to the point where you can actually hear Him and create and give Him the space to speak. Take time to communicate with Him, but also the time to listen to Him. There’s a breakthrough on the other side of you learning to listen to what His voice sounds like.
