You Know Him

By Pastor Jeffrey Smith

After he was resurrected, Jesus was about to leave earth for Heaven and the disciples were troubled. They didn’t want him to leave. But he explained that when he goes, God will send the Holy Spirit to them to be with them forever.

"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you," (John 14:16-17).

This was the plan all along…that we would not be left alone. The Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, will himself walk with us.

Jesus cautioned that the world will not know the person of the Holy Spirit walking with them. The world will not accept him because they will not see or know him.

But those of us who have accepted the gracious gift of salvation through Jesus will know the Holy Spirit. Jesus said that God will send him to us, and he promised that the Holy Spirit will be with us forever.

He will live in us. He will be with us. He will never leave us.

Jesus also revealed that the Holy Spirit will be an advocate - or one who comes to our aid - to help us. Do you need help in your life?

To discover him, invite him into your daily routine. Talk to him. Imagine the person of the Holy Spirit walking right next to you, day in and day out, and instead of ignoring him by never speaking to him, go ahead and acknowledge him. He is right there patiently waiting.

Invite him into your day. Ask for ideas. Ask for help. Ask for counsel.

You may find you already know him.
