Hebrews 4:12 - The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

City of Life is my church. It’s not just my church in the sense that I get the privilege of serving as the Senior Pastor, it’s also the church I attend, the church I’ve committed myself to, and the church within which I hope to grow. That means sometimes having to endure tough conversations and difficult situations as we pursue those common goals. That means that not every sermon and not every thought will cause people to do backflips off of pews and exclaim a strong, “that’s good!” But it’s for the best. We need tough conversations and we need difficult situations if we are to approach the high mark set for us by Jesus. It may get awkward, that’s okay. You may get offended, that’s okay. If you’re uncomfortable, that means I’ve probably done my job right. So long as I am presenting the Word in its entirety, dignifying people the way Jesus did, and presenting the Word in a way that causes enduring life-change, we’re headed in the right direction. Hebrews 4:12 lays it out like this, saying, “the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” This process requires a separation from the conventional wisdom so often doled out by culture today, and it also requires that we replace that old way of thinking with the truth and grace found in the Word. The Holy Spirit always move among us on purpose, with purpose, and acts as a helper, guiding us towards what we need in any given moment, not always what’s easy or what we’d prefer.
