I don't think we can live as Christians without reading our Bibles. When we explore the scriptures in church, I encourage you to then go home and open your Bible to read the same verses and just see what happens when you go line-by-line through a passage.

Some have the mindset that since the pastor knows how to preach and tells you everything you need to know, you don’t have to read the scriptures for yourself. That’s not true. I don't tell you everything you need to know for the week. I’m supposed to be a shepherd that leads you into the pasture.

Open your Bible to a book like James in the New Testament.  Everyday when you wake up, read from that book and see what God is speaking to you in your life regarding your relationships, your friends, or your job.

No one else can do that for you. No one else can live out the spiritual discipline that God meant for you to live out in your life. You've got to do your part. If we're ever going to be mature Christians, we've got to read the Word, we've got to memorize the Word, and we've got to hide the Word in our hearts. We put the Word of God in us so that in any situation in our life, we can always refer to that word for direction.

People ask me all the time, “What's your opinion on such-and-such?” Well, it's not about my opinion. It's not about your opinion. It's about what God has to say about everything in our life. My opinion doesn't really matter.

When you read the Bible, you can pray in Jesus' name that He would allow you to have revelation on the verses you read, and that the Holy Spirit would open up your eyes to the power that's locked up in the Word. Open your Bible today and read it in faith, confident that God will reveal the mysteries of His heart to you.
