A Life of Worship
By Pastor Jeffrey Smith

Sometimes we come to a worship service and we make it all about us and how we feel. We come in needing something soothing for our souls. But that is not what worship is. Worship is turning our hearts towards heaven. Its about giving worth to God and ascribing value to HIm.

In reality, we don’t actually need a worship service to affirm us of how valuable we are to God. Consider when a woman becomes engaged; she shows off her engagement ring to her friends to show how valued she is. In the same way, the cross of Christ is the ring on our finger showing how valuable we are to God. He has proven to us our worth to Him through the sacrifice of His Son.

Worship, then, is us turning and showing value and worth to God. It is bringing something to the table to give God from our lives. We show God what He is worth to us by the way we live our lives, the conversations we have, and the words we choose to use. It is a life of worship when we foster the presence of God in every area of our life. We can worship at work, in the car, in our homes, and in our everyday walk with the people around us. Worship is our life.

Beautiful praise music is only a support for us in turning our hearts toward heaven. We each become ministers to God as we lift our voices to glorify Him. It is not even about how well we can sing. Because worship is from the heart of the believer, it has very little to do with music. Sometimes, worshipers can’t even sing on tune, but their heart is pouring out to God. That is a life of worship.

How have you worshiped today?

“Lord, I worship you with all that I am. You are everything I need and I find my peace in you. You are my hope! You are my joy! You’re my confidence! You have never failed me or let me down one time in my darkest days. You have refused to walk away even though many have walked out on me. You’ve always stood beside me. You are my strength!”
