In Luke 13:6-9,  Jesus told this parable:

“A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’

“‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”

What does this story teach us? This story teaches us that our life is about producing fruit. It's about developing and cultivating fruit. The growth of fruit in our life is gradual. It's a little day-by-day thing that we can see.

“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, temperance… “ (1 Corinthians 5:22-23).

We see all those fruits growing in our life, but it’s a gradual process. You can't feel yourself growing. Although you might have some aches and growing pains, you don't say, “I just grew an inch!” No one says that. It’s a gradual process.

With Jesus, it’s inevitable and it's symmetrical. It means that you're not only growing in love but also growing in peace. It’s something that happens on the inside of you and grows a little more each day. As a Christian, you will grow in the fruit of the Spirit.

If you are a Christian and say that you're not growing, then revisit whether or not you're serving God. If you're not growing at all, meet Jesus anew. Get right with God. Cultivate and gradually grow fruit in your life beginning today.
