The Year of Spiritual Disciplines
Written by The City of Life Team on February 04, 2026 | Found in: BlogWhat is the most valuable thing you own right now? Maybe you thought of your car, your house, your retirement savings but the truth is, your time is your greatest treasure. Time cannot be regained once it’s gone, and this year we’re asking a simple but profound question asked by King David: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
In his Vision Sunday message, Pastor Jeffrey reminded us that time is more valuable than money, more valuable than comfort, and ultimately more valuable than anything we can hold in our hands. God has given us 365 days in 2026 — and what if we surrendered them to Him intentionally?
That’s what Give God One Year is all about — not perfection, not performance, but spiritual formation through disciplines that reshape our hearts as we refocus on Him.
Twelve Disciplines for Twelve Months
Each month of 2026 we’re stepping into a spiritual discipline with one purpose: to slow down enough to notice God, know God, and follow God more closely. At the beginning of each month, one of our pastors will unpack that month’s discipline and help us pursue it together as a church family.
January — Solitude and Silence
We start the year by creating space to quiet our souls before God — because if we don’t slow down, we’ll miss what He’s right in the midst of.
February — Tithing
This month we learn what it looks like to trust God with our finances — remembering that when God has our time, everything else follows.
March — Invitation and Evangelism
We step out of our comfort zones and share the hope of Jesus with others, believing that God uses ordinary invitations to change eternal destinies.
April — Faithful Church Attendance
We commit to showing up — faithfully, consistently, and joyfully — because community is where our faith is strengthened and our hearts are anchored.
May — Prayer
Prayer is our lifeline to God. This month we deepen our conversation with Him — speaking honestly, listening intently, and trusting Him fully.
June — Bible Reading
We immerse ourselves in God’s Word — letting Scripture ground us, guide us, and transform us from the inside out.
July — Cutting Out Distractions
We identify what pulls our hearts away from God and choose to remove it — because clarity comes when distractions go.
August — Serving
We reflect Jesus through humble service — because faith without action is incomplete.
September — Community and Small Groups
We grow better together. Small groups are where life change happens through authentic relationships and shared faith journeys.
October — Fasting
We deny ourselves to cling more closely to God — rediscovering dependency on Him above all else.
November — Generosity
Generosity becomes a lifestyle — joyfully giving not because we have to, but because Jesus first gave to us.
December — Sabbath
We finish the year by resting — remembering that Sabbath isn’t inactivity, but trust in God as our provider and sustainer.
A Year of Transformation, Not Obligation
Give God One Year is an invitation to slow down in a fast world, to create margin for what matters, and to dwell in God’s presence in a way that changes us from the inside out.
Giving God one year doesn’t mean everything in your life will be fixed but it does mean that when we slow our pace, align our hearts, and pursue God together, everything changes.
Why This Matters
Time is limited. Days are numbered. Drift is dangerous. Awareness of God’s presence is the cure. As we surrender 2026 to God, we trust Him to shape our faith, deepen our joy, expand our influence, and transform our lives in ways we can’t yet imagine.
Join the Journey
Whether you’ve been walking with Jesus for years or you’re just beginning your faith story, this invitation is for you:
Give God One Year.
Not perfectly.
Not perfectly together.
But intentionally.
And just one year from now, look back and see how God has moved.
Let’s give God one year and watch what He does!
