Long Life

In Psalm 91:15-16 we read, “He shall call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. With long life, I will satisfy him.”

That's a powerful promise. God is looking at someone that loves him and saying that He will satisfy him with long life. It means that righteousness and long life are intertwined. If you want to live a long life, then you need to honor, love, worship and respect God.

Looking at another scripture in Proverbs 10: 27, we read, “The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.” That's a godly fear. That means giving honor and respect to the Lord.

Are there ways of living that can cut short our days? Absolutely. Wild living can do it, but also life choices such as drinking, smoking, excessively partying, sleeping around, bad eating, not sleeping well…all these things can ultimately contribute to a shorter life. They're just things that are not using wisdom in our life.

There are also natural things that can add to our life. Statistically speaking, we need people in our life. People who live in communities with rich connections and relationships live the longest.

That’s why the church is so important. It is not just for attending, but for building relationships with our spiritual family. The church is supposed to be the model community where we come together as believers and lift each other up. When we're going through a tough time, we have each other to lean on.

There's something so powerful about community and about building relationships with people. Loving people and honoring God produce a way of living that leads to a long life.
