Just Enough

Give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God. Proverbs 30:8-9

Two of the greatest moments that lead to disappointment are extreme failure or extreme success. Failure weighs on us and often success does not satisfy us the way we imagined. This prayer in Proverbs reflects wisdom that the extreme highs and lows of life can both disappoint us.

Failure reveals the idols of our hearts because we turn to so many things other than God in our worst moments. Success shows us the emptiness of life without God. Disappointment can be so powerful that we actually let it define us. Some people end their life due to disappointment and others live in continually bitterness because of it.

You have to realize that if something doesn’t happen the way you pictured it, God has something else for you. Your appointment is not cancelled, it is merely delayed. Knowing Jesus allows us to experience true contentment in any and every situation.

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-13

Jesus is the only thing that can bring us fulfillment. In Him, we find unshakable peace. Don’t let the devil rob you of your future by letting him define your life based on your disappointment. Jesus is everything you need and remember that you can do all things through Him!
