The Space of Our Heart

By Pastor Jeffrey Smith

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. - Romans 10:9

This message of hope is for everyone. We all have the opportunity to invite Jesus to become the Lord of our life, to do what that scripture says to believe and receive him into our heart.

Take a moment and imagine that your heart is like a home that has different rooms. What space in your heart have you allocated for Jesus? A little tiny closet. A little tiny corner. The whole floor plan?

Now imagine that space cleared out of everything that doesn't belong in your life, all the things that you've held onto so tightly that have no power to save you. How about offering all that space in your heart to Jesus?

Sometimes we try to save ourselves by holding tightly to the traditions of the holidays or the planning for the new year. Unfortunately, these things don’t have the power to save us. They are neutral. We can’t look at them as having inherent value other than something we do each year. They don't add or subtract any eternal value to our life. While we can enjoy our traditions, let’s make sure that we're adding something to the traditions that does have everlasting value. That something is recognizing Jesus as the center of our lives.

Today is an opportunity. Those of you that have never received Christ into your life, take a moment and consider making a decision to give him all the space in your heart.

You can pray, “Jesus, I receive you into my life. I commit my heart to you forever. I ask you, Lord, to forgive me of my sins. I'm turning away from the old life, walking into a brand new life with you. Everything changes today. Yesterday is gone. All things have been made new in Jesus’ name. My heart is now your home. I will serve you all the days of my life from this day forward. Amen.”
